ABOUT
My final performance at Ashoka University explores my personal relationship to Odissi, the dance form i was trained in while growing up. About the anger, frustration, love, abhinaya, the intense love-hate relationship i shared with the form. The performance begins with the classical reaching contact improvisation & ends in a space of performance art as i shave my head behind a thin red veil. Having grown up training in dance, long hair was seen as an important part of the dance world. Wanting to shave my head for a long time, and not finding the right space for it, from a temple to seeking space in Benaras, i found the performance space, the stage, as the perfect ode to the odissi i learnt. To the hair i grew for the dance and marking this moment as my re-entry into the form through a new and personal lens.
