Under Body, Below Word __ A Space takes the Bollywood track -  Beedi Jalaile from the film Omkara, and slowly takes it apart. What begins as spectacle shifts into scrutiny, as performers are watched, corrected, and asked to perform movements deemed “acceptable.” Gestures are put on trial in court rooms, broken down through drills, and shaped by systems that decide how a body should behave. The work grew from the rhetoric of the media and political speech, phrases like “non-escalatory” or “in national interest,” revealed how meaning shifts, empties, or erases dissent. The piece moves between the political and the playful.
