GiA

An ongoing laboratory that asks,

What happens when performance is not a demonstration,
but an  u n fol d i ng condition?

THE LAB:

Performance is understood as an event composed through
attention
relation
duration.

A tussle between

bodies

objects and

space.

It does not need to begin
when an audience arrives
or
ends when an action stops.

WITHIN THE LAB,
work u n fol ds
through thinking
through doing

Rehearsed

but

responsive

structured

but

unstable.

Bodies are treated as sensing and thinking agents.

Attention is practiced through looking listening and staying.

Space is reorganized through sensation, feeling, emotions
the logical, the illogical, the imagined.

Objects, balloons, carpets, chairs, found objects are treated as collaborators that shape movement and perception.

Memory enters as material through repetition, archives, gestures remembered by the body, the body loops what it remembers all too well.

Images look outward and inward at once studying the world around us while observing the body and its shapes.

Meaning is not illustrated… it accumulates through action.
Formed collectively and individually.

Outcomes may appearas performances, poetry, ideas, conversations, or unfinished propositions.

We turn around,
go elsewhere
and arrive
back at ourselves.
